Chendipada/ Angul 04/07/25 – The District Administration has stopped the newly started Nayani coal mine in the Chendipada block. It is reported that a few months ago, there was unrest in the local area regarding the newly started Nayani coal mine. There was dissatisfaction over the problem of displaced people, starting from the cutting of trees for the coal mine. In this regard, the local affected people presented various demands to the management of the Nayani coal mine, starting from the employment and rehabilitation of the local people, but that could not be resolved.
In this regard, when the Sambalpur MP and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was visiting Chendipada, the affected villagers complained about the arbitrary work of the coal mine and many people submitted written demands for its resolution. Even when the Union Minister was returning to Chendipada after completing a program from Talcher area, hundreds of villagers of Kardabahal stopped the carcade of the Minister at Kukurpeta and expressed their contempt regarding Singareni Company’s arbitrary recruitment, relocation and rehabilitation policies Besides , they informed that trees will be cut from the Chendipada area and will be planted in Balasore, Koraput and other districts which will increase the pollution level in this area . In this regard, the Union Minister immediately appointed an ADM level person to resolve the issue and directed the District Collector to immediately resolve the problems of the people. He promised the people that he would also review the issue himself.
After this, today(Friday), the Chendipada Police Administration went to the Nayani coal mine and stopped the mining work. In this regard, the Chendipada Police has informed that the mining work has been stopped as per the orders of the higher authorities. It is learnt from reliable sources that the Union Minister has ordered that the mine will remain closed until the problems of the people are resolved.
